This is a great level access shower build with a AKW Tuff Form shower pan.
There are many ways to build a level access shower and linear drains are only one option. The shower above was built and waterproofed with a "Former" what the UK boys call a ready made barrier free shower pan. This one a AKW. Not everyone likes the look of the trench drain or slot drain and if you prefer this look Ronny's team in Toronto or mine right here in Vancouver can offer you either.
In this shower there is a little collapsable dam.

There are many different ways to design your next curbless shower. Lots of what I show and feature are upscale modern design but these barrier free showers also aid in Aging in Place and make a dangerous room in your house much safer and greatly reduce the risk of tripping and falling.

Now if you did want to install a linear drain and you are years off from needing an assisted living environment the care and attention to detail in waterproofing a shower like this is no different from the shower I outlined above. It is far better to be pro-active in your next bathroom renovation than being reactive when a loved one has a fall.
